MORE THAN 10 THOUSAND BUSINESSES APPLY FOR THE WAGE SUBSIDY PROGRAM SO FAR

More than 10-thousand businesses have already applied for the federal wage subsidy program. It will cover 75-percent of each employees’ wage if their employer has seen a 15-percent revenue drop since early March because of Covid-19. It’s up to a maximum of 874-dollars a week for up to 12 weeks.

-Camrose MLA Jackie Lovely and MP Damien Kurek are working on a survey to get an idea of what businesses in the region feel has been working or not working for them through everything so far. Lovely says many have already reached out to her to say they’re worried:

“They’re worried about how long we need to be in our current state. Some have been providing curbside service and that’s great, but there’s been such a serious impact on everyone’s business. They’re worried about the future. So I’ve been in touch with all the mayors and Chambers of Commerce in our constituency and they’ve got a database which they’re going to blast out electronically. I’ve actually already received my first survey back. I sent it on Friday and got it back on Saturday.”

Effective immediately, tennis courts, pickleball courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, disc golf and premier sports fields are closed in the city of Edmonton. This is to ensure the health and safety of Edmontonians and to meet provincial orders around physical distancing. Park spaces like baseball diamonds and soccer fields will be open to the public for casual use only starting May 1, weather permitting.

Users of baseball and soccer amenities must continue to adhere to two metre physical distancing rules, ensure gatherings are kept to 15 people or fewer, and avoid or limit touching commonly touched surfaces like sporting equipment or stationary field objects.
