How We Can Help the People of Ukraine
The current situation in Ukraine is heartbreaking. Russia’s unprovoked war has torn apart communities and families, killed thousands of people, and turned daily life into an incredible struggle for Ukrainian people.
Canada is home to the world’s 3rd largest population of Ukrainians. Almost 1.4 million Canadians claim Ukrainian heritage. Ukrainian people have made Canada a better place, advancing multiculturalism and taking a prominent role in education, athletics, politics, agriculture, science, and business.
While the strength of the Ukrainian people has been inspiring, Canadians can do more than watch. As the Ukrainian people continue to fight for democracy and dignity, you can help provide some of the urgent assistance and emergency relief they need.
Help the people of Ukraine by supporting one of these organizations:
Canada Ukraine Foundation:
The Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, established by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and the Canada-Ukraine Foundation (CUF) is working with Ukrainian government ministries, who are in the best position to advise on the needs on the ground so that we can ensure that the donations we receive meet the needs of the Ukrainian people.
Canadian Red Cross:
Donations to the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal can be made on the Canadian Red Cross redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111
Unicef Canada:
You can help UNICEF send urgent humanitarian aid to children and families in Ukraine by donating to UNICEF’s Ukraine Emergency Fund today.
Kyiv Independent:
The Kyiv Independent, an English-language media outlet, was launched three months ago and was created on the principles of independent journalism and free-press. The goal of their Go Fund Me campaign is to keep the accurate news coming.
Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights:
The Urgent Action Fund is helping support women, transgender, and nonbinary activists on the ground in and around Ukraine, by providing flexible funding, access to communication channels, and medical support.
International Organization for Migration (IOM):
IOM is scaling up its humanitarian operations in Ukraine and neighboring countries, providing emergency services in health, shelter, winter supplies, and protection.
